Our London Trip Winners!

I am attaching several pictures for you from our trip. We did alot of different things, and packed as much as possible into our schedule each day in order to take full advantage of the opportunities. There is much to see!! I have been fortunate to have travelled to England before, so in London we concentrated on visiting sites Ralph would be interested in. The picture attachments are at 1)Bodiam Castle in Sussex 2) Ralph at Notre Dame Catherdral in Paris, 3) Ralph with Tower of London in background, 4) Ralph and myself at Bodiam Castle in Sussex and 5) in the Canterbury Cathedral gardens.

We spent four days in London, and visited quite a few sites. We attended a service at Westminster Abbey, and visited the Tower of London, British Museum (we were lucky to see an exhibit of Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh paintings), Royal Air Force Museum, and enjoyed spending time seeing other sights such as the London Eye, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. Ralph enjoyed trying out some fish and chips. On Easter Sunday, we rode by train to Canterbury, Kent, England, where we attended services at Canterbury Cathedral - the music was wonderful.

We purchased BritRail passes prior to leaving the U.S., which is the best way to travel around the country and see the sights. Many historic sites are accessible because just about every town or city has a train station.

In the southeast part of England, trees were just beginning to bud and spring flowers were sprouting. The English countryside is beautiful. Along of some of the train routes in Southern England were sheep farms, and the fields were full of spring lambs scampering everywhere. We also went to Battle Abbey in Battle (where the Battle of 1066 occurred), Bodiam Castle in Sussex - Southeast England, and also travelled to Paris where we visited Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Our return trip to England from France was aboard the Eurostar. This is a wonderful high-speed train that travels at top speed and offers an extremely smooth ride. The part of the journey actually under the English Channel is just 20 minutes. We returned to Waterloo Station in London.

We ended the trip in Dover, where we toured Dover Castle and took a guided tour through the World War II tunnels.
