Wreath-Making Event

If you have trouble finding the perfect wreath for your mantle or front door, how about making a customized wreath? On Tuesday, December 8th, the J. Bryan Floyd Recreation Center in North Myrtle Beach is holding a free wreath workshop from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Materials will be on site except the wreath forms (limited quantity of forms available for purchase), but if you have something special for your own wreath, bring it along.

Southern Tradition: Black-Eyed Peas

Staying for the holidays here at Avista? Be sure to include black-eyed peas with your first New Year's meal. This is an old Southern tradition signifying good luck and prosperity in the New Year to follow all who eat the flavorful peas. Said to date back to the Civil War, this tradition is rooted in the use of the peas, once a food for livestock, then fed troops and civilians when other crops were destroyed.
